What Is A Father To Do...

June 12th 2017

Robert was sitting at a fast food restaurant with his girlfriend. He had just placed the tray of food in front of her and sat down when she gathered the courage to tell him she was pregnant. He wished he had reacted differently, but the initial shock of the news made him recoil. For the first time in his life he lost his appetite. The resulting confusion and uncertainty made him act in a way that upset her. He leaned back putting both of his hands in his hair. “Are you kidding me?”

She had been praying he would be happy with the news.

As the father, your feelings matter. Your willingness to communicate your wishes will help your partner deal with the unplanned pregnancy. This can be a typical initial reaction for such a huge life changing moment. Our trained RealOptions advocates and medical professionals are there to help process the important decisions you are facing regarding a father’s rights and responsibilities. Our male advocates are available to lead willing men into the privilege of fatherhood, and help them formulate a plan to communicate openly with their partners.

Fortunately, there are a lot of resources available for you and your partner to get through this uncertain time.

The advocates at RealOptions can help answer all of your questions. They can show you all the resources available to you and your partner, if you choose to parent and raise the child. They can provide adoption consultations and direct you to the agency of choice should you decide to choose parents for your child and make an adoption plan. You can also get truthful and unbiased answers about abortion procedures and costs and how it may affect you and your partner.

Robert and his girlfriend came to the RealOptions Pregnancy Medical Clinic for a free sonogram and after several visits with the medical staff and a patient advocate they gathered all the information about their options and decided to parent. Parenting in this case was the right choice for them.

RealOptions provides you with a team of experienced advocates and medical professionals to help you make the right choices and follow a specific plan of action that will work for you. If you are worried about the prospect of facing an unexpected pregnancy, as the baby’s father you may find it helpful to meet with one of our male patient advocates.
